The wide 21 foot pool and long 10 foot spa give the project a broad, contemporary profile. Rather than using one shallow lounging area, the design incorporates two sun shelves, creating balance across the pool and providing more than one place to relax close to the waterline.
Using Width to Shape the Backyard
At 21 feet wide, the pool has a different presence than a narrow lap style rectangle. The extra width creates room for the two sun shelves while still preserving a usable central swimming area.
The 5 by 10 foot infinity style spa reinforces that wider geometry. Raising it 18 inches gives the spa enough elevation to become the main focal point, while its rectangular shape mirrors the straight lines of the pool and deck.
The picture window enclosure and elimination of chair rails help keep the backyard visually open. That is particularly important with a wider pool because a cleaner screen structure allows the water to feel connected to the view beyond the cage rather than boxed into it.
