Babcock Ranch Custom Pool with Raised Ledgestone Planters
Completed in 2023, this custom pool in Babcock Ranch was designed to create a clean, comfortable outdoor living space that felt like a natural extension of the home. The project centers around a 16′ x 36′ rectangular pool surrounded by a generous Ivory Travertine deck, with two raised Ledgestone planters, a sun shelf with a Pentair ColorVision bubbler, two deck jets, and a White Pearl PebbleTec interior.
The goal was not to fill the backyard with features. It was to get the proportions right, preserve the open view from the lanai, and choose materials and details that worked together without making the space feel crowded.
Designing the Pool Around the Home
The rectangular layout was a natural fit for this Babcock Ranch home. Its straight lines complement the architecture and create a clear sightline from the covered lanai through the length of the pool.
At 16 feet wide by 36 feet long, the pool provides enough room for swimming, relaxing, and spending time in the water without overwhelming the backyard. The size also gave us the flexibility to incorporate a substantial sun shelf while maintaining plenty of open water.
The surrounding Ivory Travertine deck measures approximately 29′ x 49′ x 21′, creating considerably more than just a walkway around the pool. There is room for seating, loungers, and everyday movement without furniture competing for the same space.
That relationship between the pool and the deck was an important part of the design. From inside the home and from the lanai, the pool remains the focal point, while the deck gives the backyard the functionality of a true outdoor living area.
We also kept the far side of the pool relatively low and open. The raised planters provide enough elevation to frame the view without creating a wall across the backyard. The result is a space that feels defined while still maintaining the openness that made the property attractive in the first place.
Materials and Features
The material palette for this project was intentionally simple. Ivory Travertine, Ledgestone, White Pearl PebbleTec, and the water itself provide enough variation in color and texture without competing with one another.
Raised Ledgestone Planters
Two planters were raised 12 inches above the deck along the far side of the pool and finished in Ledgestone. They create a stronger visual endpoint when looking across the water from the lanai and introduce texture against the smoother pool deck and interior finish.
Keeping them at 12 inches was also intentional. The elevation gives the planters presence without interrupting the open view across the backyard.
Ivory Travertine Deck
Ivory Travertine surrounds the pool and carries throughout the outdoor living area. Its natural variation works especially well across a deck of this size and gives the space a finished look without drawing attention away from the pool.
The lighter material also complements the White Pearl pool interior and the natural tones found throughout the Ledgestone.
Sun Shelf and ColorVision Bubbler
The sun shelf creates a shallow area for lounging and gives the pool another way to be enjoyed beyond swimming. A Pentair ColorVision bubbler was incorporated into the shelf, adding movement during the day and another lighting element after dark.
Because the bubbler is integrated into the shelf rather than added as a separate focal point, it gives the space another feature without making the overall design feel busy.
Our Take on the Finished Pool
Deck Jets
Two deck jets send clean arcs of water across the pool. They provide movement and sound when the homeowners want it, but can also be turned off when a quieter pool environment is preferred.
We considered the number and scale of the water features carefully. With a pool this clean and linear, adding too much would have worked against the simplicity of the design.
White Pearl PebbleTec Interior
White Pearl PebbleTec was selected for the interior finish, creating bright, inviting water that works well with the lighter travertine surrounding the pool.
The finish changes naturally with the Southwest Florida light throughout the day, from a lighter appearance under direct sun to a deeper blue as the light begins to soften.
Together, the interior, deck, stonework, and water features give the pool visual interest without relying on any one feature to carry the entire design.

What we like most about the finished project is how comfortable everything feels together.
There is enough deck space for the backyard to function as an outdoor living area, but the pool still commands the view. The raised planters give the far side definition without closing it in. The water features add movement when wanted, while the rectangular layout keeps the overall design clean.
Most importantly, the pool looks like it belongs with the home.
That is something we try to establish early in the design process. Pool dimensions, deck proportions, elevations, sightlines, and material selections all influence how the finished backyard feels. By working through those relationships before construction begins, we can make decisions based on the entire space rather than treating the pool as a standalone feature.
This Babcock Ranch project is a good example of how a relatively straightforward pool shape can feel completely custom when the proportions, materials, elevations, and details are considered together.
